Austin Butler Variety Interview
Update: It helps when I insert the link. Sorry, I swore that I had but obviously I didn't! 🤔😕
I have never seen this interview before so I thought I would share it with all of you!
Haha I was just screaming about her work in my last post, CONGRATS MANDY! Big win for women in the industry too! 👏 So glad her stellar work is getting recognition!
I’ll never get over “Elvis”, but I especially will always be thinking about the ‘If I Can Dream’ segment of the film. The tension between Parker (who is the devil) trying to push Elvis fully into commercialism by selling sewing machines in a corny Christmas number, but Elvis commandeering the production to do an song that is equal parts racial protest and personal protest. Elvis is fighting for his own soul.
The lens flare at the beginning of Elvis’s introduction to the scene, the white light of his suit. The juxtaposition of the Christmas imagery to the starkly dressed Elvis (who, within the logic of the film, is functionally Messianic). Such a great visual representation of the tension within these characters.

I am still at a loss for words. Elvis didn’t get a single award. How the fuck was this possible? I am sorry, but Mandy and Catherine should hat gotten one. And the fact that Baz wasn’t even nominated... It just hurts, you know? It hurts.
