Ask Game: N I P S (Crane)
N: Does your character have mannerisms based on the things they wear, such as pushing up their glasses or checking their watch?
Jonathan does push up his glasses, because it's rare for him to have a pair that actually fits him. Like all of his movements, it's a deliberate action.
I: What do other characters first think of your character, based on their body language and way of speaking? Is this first impression usually accurate?
Jonathan is very off-putting. He sets off inner alarm bells to all but the most fearless, not because he's outright threatening, but because of how unsettling he is, to put it mildly. His movements are very slow and his way of speaking is polite, but also gets across his lack of deeper interest. It feels as if he's putting on an act.
P: Are mannerisms often used to show respect where your character lives? If so, how would your character convey respect to someone else? Likewise, does your character generally have good or bad table manners? Why is this so?
Jonathan doesn't respect very many people. When he does respect someone, he shows this via action, rather than words, usually by doing someone a favor or tolerating their presence. He has decent table manners, even if he's a bit of a slob in his living areas.
S: Is your character good at communicating using nonverbal mannerisms? Do they have any “secret gestures” with other characters? If so, what?
Jonathan is very good at non-verbal communication. He can communicate his intentions with as little as a raised finger, or a short nod. When he's about to unleash his toxin in Arkham, he'll tap his right leg twice to warn any of his fellow escapees.
