Whisky Post: Mannochmore 25 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch
Tasting Notes
Loch Dhu 10 Year
Review by: The Muskox Last December 31st, I chose to finish off the year with a famously amazing whisky. I had planned on making that a tradition, but in light of the kind of year 2020 has been, I thought it’d be fitting to try an infamously horrible whisky instead. This ominously inky dram is Loch Dhu 10, a bottling of Mannochmore from the late 90s. Subtitled “Black Whisky” on the label, the…

Mannochmore 22 (1974) Rare Malts
Review by: Raygun Mannochmore is one of a number of fairly anonymous Speysides that I rarely think about. Sometimes I manage to forget about it even while drinking some. Probably best known as the producer of the infamous Loch Dhu. It was built in 1971 next to Glenlossie to provide whisky for blends, and that’s still where most of it goes. This therefore was distilled not long after opening.…

Mannochmore 11 (2007) Ultimate Whisky Company (blind)
Review by: Raygun Another of the group of new distilleries built in the 70s, 1971 in this case. Built by the predecessor of Diageo and now part of that conglomerate. Mannochmore is likely best known for the infamous Loch Dhu. Primarily goes to blends, but there’s a Flora and Fauna bottling and the occasional IB. I’ve had a grand total of one, but it was a pretty tasty one from Binny’s. Initially…

Mannochmore 11 (2010) Signatory Vintage
Review by: Raygun Another Binny’s pick this time. Mannochmore is not something I’ve seen a ton of; in fact, this appears to be the first one I’ve tried, or at least reviewed. Built in 1971 and it seems most production goes to Diageo blends. There’s the occasional OB release and a few IBs floating around. Binny’s selections rarely steer me wrong. Often punch above their weight, I’d say. Hard to…

Mannochmore 15 Year (2007), SMWS 64 “Luscious velvet”
Review by: Whiskery Turnip Every year SMWS releases a number of whiskies in May celebrating the different regions of Scotland; it is their entry into the Festival season that sweeps from Islay across Speyside and beyond. Our local whisky group hosts a tasting most years with the SMWS Festival bottles so that everyone can give them a taste and give their thoughts— possibly expressing regret that…
