I CAN'T WRITE AN ENTIRE ESSAY IN 500 WORDS! IT'S JUST NOT POSSIBLE, OK?
Seriously, isn't essay length supposed to get longer the higher you go up the education system? Because it seems to be the opposite for me.
GCSE English coursework: however the fuck long I like (my essays ranged from 1500 to 4000) because at GCSE they didn't give a fuck about the word limit.
A Level coursework: 1500-2000 words (with 10% on either side) and they were pretty strict about the word limit (unless you made it up)
First Uni formative essays: 500 words. This includes quotes, and apparently is meant to include footnotes. Haha, fuck that, if I included footnotes, my essay could only be about 200 words long. (OK, it's only formative and our proper summative ones are either two of 1000 words - still shit - or 1 of 2000, but stiiiill)
