I've planned out a warband for trying out one page rules quest Sci fi version. First up is a rat ogre type. The green came out pretty well.

Enforcer , Forge Father, Orc and Plague Strike Teams I painted up for Deadzone back in 2nd edition. Still playable and part of a great skirmish game. These were all done with traditional layer painting. Contrast / Speed paints were not part of my world yet.

Two more Mantic Star Saga Mercenaries, I believe I only have one more left. I forget what the guy on the left is, I believe the guy on the right is some kind of space dinosaur samurai. These two were a painting experiment of something I saw on YouTube where the painter primed the miniatures silver and then put colored speed paints over that to give them metallic shine. I've tried this before with little computer monitor props but not on a full-size figure. I think it gives them kind of a candy coated shine, I mostly like it, but I need to think about it before I revisit it.

Nightstalkers - Find The Colour

First was yellow, then some blue, so many colours of Horrors, what next might we do? Red Pink. I know, how original. I'm still not happy with what I've done so far. Maybe one day I'll find the mythical unicorn of a tone. Is today the day?

Well not with this fucking one. The sibling of Dark Red tone. I guess it's a bit richer, but it's still not getting the right kind of pink going. As always, lovely for some kind of pale fleshy skin tone, and probably appropriate for these models, but just urgh. Maybe I just paint one horror with this and see how much I recoil?

The final attempt for now, and the one supposedly closest from various colour matching tables I've found. Salmon. That's what this makes me think of. Again, it's more flesh than skin going on here, but it's at least somewhat pinky?

Hmm, yeah maybe the closest of all of them so far, but still not right. I'm not sure if it's a consistency issue, or the sharper edges on the Reaper than the Horror. Again, maybe it's worth just trying this one on a horror? Or maybe it's back to the comparison tables again. This is the problem with early success: I found a spot on recipe and now can't get the same ingredients any more.

Color Study: Red

Both of these minis were a study in painting a (relatively) monocolor red scheme, done ~2 years apart.

Clovis, from the Zombicide: Black Plague game. CMON miniatures. Mostly Blood Angels Red contrast paint glazed over a manual black/white undercoat.

One of my wife's unpainted Eschers, from G*mes W*rkshop's Necromunda; I decided to finish the set for use in Firefight and Deadzone.

This was the first of several so the implementation isn't perfect, but she's one of my favorites nonetheless. For one, the off-pink steel is very useful in certain schemes (Pro Acryl Coal Black -> Neutral Grey -> Pink -> Pink + White).

Secondly, in the words of Al Pacino: she's got a great ass. GW puts way too many details on their models, so on these Eschers I shaved off excess doodads and made up the difference with a little Greenstuff. I was reading some Catwoman graphic novels around this time and wanted practice painting latex (similar but subtly different from glossy leather). Plus it seems like the model companies only make space for skinny women. A far future sans curvy gals would be grim and dark indeed.
