Manu Parekh added to modern Indian art by plainly mixing strong feeling, clear symbols and plain spiritual sense. He used bright colors plus forceful shapes that took their cue from the city of Banaras and those gave today's pictures a fresh inner weight. He set old Indian subjects beside present day outlooks and, in that way, he reset the path for figure based art in India. His pictures still act on young artists but also keep them alert.
