I've never known what to call these little map clusters in convenience stores. It seems so impersonal to just call them map racks... It's not a map nursery or school (they're already in mature form). Perhaps map college, since they're typically surrounded by sexually frustrated students/truckers, and lots of booze?
Maybe we could think of them as a gathering of map day laborers? No one comes here seeking a map for a long-term employment situation; rather, people come for a brief, professional relationship aimed at accomplishing one task. Let's face it: how many times will you need that map of Evansville?
If you only visit once, then the map's useful for duration of that visit, and that's it.
If you visit there more than once or if you move there, you'll need it for maybe a week or two until you learn the area.
Either way, the relationship is professional and temporary to accomplish a specific goal. The maps gathered here are offering a variety of skills and services for anyone willing to pay for a day's labor. 40.778835 -86.128306
