Dear President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, We, the undersigned, join in unity to condemn the escalating series of human rights violations against our Lumad brothers and sisters in Lianga, Surigao del Sur and throughout the rest of Mindanao. We mourn the brutal murders of indigenous community leaders Emerito “Tatay Emok” Samarca, Executive Director of ALCADEV, an alternative secondary school system for Lumad children in Mindanao; Dionel Campos, Chairperson of indigenous mass organization Malahutayong Pakigbisog Alang sa Sumusunod (MAPASU); and fellow MAPASU member Bello Sinzo by the bandit paramilitary group Magahat/Bagani and elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
