Above is a photo I took on Friday of trumpet player and composer Marcus Hampton (his uncle is "Slide" Locksley Hampton) at the Jazz District in KC!  

  The B&W photo immediately above it is a picture of both Marc Hampton and saxophonist, Willie Driffin, who were mentors and friends of ours as well as military band colleagues serving overseas in Germany.  That picture of the two men in fatigues, and the other historical photographs in this post, were taken between 1977 - 1980 by trombonist, Robert Levitsky, also a colleague from that military band.

HISTORICAL NOTE

- 

Hamp' was one of the principle arrangers and a featured artist with the Army band in Germany we were posted with during the middle 1970s.  

  Hamp' was also my roommate before Terri Anderson Burnett and I were married. He taught me how to play changes on the piano in order to learn tunes thoroughly, showed me arranging techniques and also took me to jam sessions in Munich on off-duty weekends.

  It is rare that you get to reconnect with a military musical mentor and friend like Hamp' after almost 40 years passing.
