ok so this is kind of a blast post for anyone with mares or knowledge of mare problems— my four y.o. paint cross mare has consistantly gotten this gross waxy buildup on and between her teats. its hardened, but in a dry thick waxy way that makes her itchy— theres a little fungally patch between her teats where the buildup is the worst, but the wax and crud comes back every day even if i thoroughly clean and treat it. i’ve treated it with anti-fungal, udder cleaner, special udder lotions, medicated shampoos, tried cleaning & treating everyday, every other week, once a moth, etc. but the wax & crusties keeps coming back. shes a maiden mare, has never had a foal, is not pregnant, and has absolutely zero udder bag. the waxy crust is a dark coppery color that made me first believe it was dried blood, but besides the fungally patch theres no other irritation that leads me to believe shes bleeding. i am... at a loss with this. some wax can be healthy, but this feels a little extreme. even when her diet shifted & changed, this “condition” did not. i can take more pictures if needed, of her udders before and after cleaning, but this just has me going ???
