In See You Then, director and writer Mari Walker gives us My Dinner With Andre energy with a story of two friends who meet up for dinner and engage in a series of intimate conversations that tend to reveal a lot about themselves as women — before one huge shocking revelation is revealed. See You Then is set to make its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival on March 16 but Deadline has a sneak peek of the friendship drama.
In the first clip we see the aforementioned Kris (Pooya Mohseni) and Naomi (Lynn Chen) chopping it up at dinner. Kris talks about her recent transition and shares the obstacles of her journey and what she has learned — and Naomi learns a couple of things as well.
See You Then is a personal story for Walker as she draws from her experiences while transitioning. The film brings to light the trans experiences and although living one’s truth is freeing, there are heartbreaking emotions and situations one has to confront and live through.
Listing for a panel discussion at the Los Angeles Film Festival (#LAFF) tomorrow afternoon at the Kirk DOUGLAS! Theatre, 9820 Washington Blvd. in Culver City (near the old Westwood One Radio studios, home of Tom Leykis), free to the public. And it’s moderated by everyone’s favourite Whovian from the Arch City, @rileysilverman. (And Swim is the short where Jen Richards shares the lead with a cis actor.) There’s also the 6 pm panel “The Other: Documenting Marginalized Stories,” featuring panelist Sydney Freeland (director of Her Story and the Sasheer Zamara vehicle Deidra & Laney Rob a Train), while Silverman’s podcaster friend Guy Branum (Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell) will be in the 8 pm discussion “Reclaiming Gay for Pay: What it Means to be ‘Out’ in Hollywood” (attention @gayforplay). Or you can go protest at the Arclight Cinema in Santa Monica when Anything opens…
See You Then https://bit.ly/3Q7S9hd See You Then pulls a neat “did not see that coming” switcheroo early on, though a glance at any of the blurbs about the film will reveal what it is. It doesn’t matter much – it comes scant minutes in, so won’t ruin the fun. Two women meet up. They were evidently once lovers. Both seem nervous. It’s been a long time, at least ten years, since they saw each other. Kris (Pooya Mohseni) seems keen, nervous, Naomi (Lynn Chen) less sure, wary. Having got the “look at you”, “it’s been so long” niceties out of the way, the two of them head for a friendly restaurant, where Kris reveals that her changed … Read more

Here is our #SXSW #review of 'slow-burning' drama See You Then (@seeyouthenfilm):
Marking the directorial debut of Mari Walker, See You Then stars Pooya Mohseni and Lynn Chen in a drama about love, loss and relationships. After a decade apart, Kris (Mohseni) invites Naomi (Chen) to dinner while visiting Los Angeles for a work conference. During the evening, the two talk about their lives while they have been apart, causing buried feelings to slowly resurface. When we first…
