MARIA CARBONELL Exhibition: ‘Artificial Landscapes’ @galeriat20 Murcia The Murcian artist presents her latest exhibition at T20, a revelation of her work methodologies. María Carbonell is a leading figure in contemporary Spanish art, constantly renovating and exploring her process. Her art is recognized for the decontextualization of the works: after searching for images, she proceeds to retouch, extrapolate and mix them, which leads her her own collages. María Carbonell has always placed the aesthetics of the human figure at the centre of all her pieces, suggesting new meanings to the viewer and generating doubt. In her latest works, the artist has rediscovered the "Italian Andy Warhol", Mimmo Rotella, painter and father of the décollage technique. Thanks to her inspiration, María Carbonell has decided to immerse herself into physical work for the first time, since she always works with digital collage. In a literal way, her methodology has consisted of collecting and tearing newspaper clippings, magazines, textures, etc., until obtaining a pleasant combination, giving way to photography and subsequent editing in digital format. In addition to physical contact with materials, María Carbonell has embarked on the adventure of treating a genre hitherto unknown to her, landscapes. The artist creates a hybrid work in which two different and separate realities occur. Torn posters depict the remains of an urban landscape, while an exotic print sits in the background, provided by photographs of the South American forests.
