So, today I got a frantic knock on my door. Hurry, hurry there’s an orca out on the shore line in distress. Now, I am the camp host not a Park Ranger but, I quickly grabbed my camera with the 70-200 with 1.4 extender on it and Tj and we ran out to see what was wrong.
After several unsuccessful attempts to reach NOAH for help. I called the California office of Marine Mammal Rescue. They put me in touch with the office nearest me.
Scads of people were on the shoreline worried about this poor sea lion who as it turns out was just taking a nap. What! I said incredulously. They explained this is called “sailing” and it is a perfectly normal way for a pinniped to take a nap.
Well, phew! Then like the park ranger I am not I informed all concerned that he would be just fine.
