Blog #1- Lets Begin
In this first week of class, I believe that my first success was signing up for this class. I love taking photos but I never learned how to use the manual settings on my camera. I wanted to try something new and I am looking forward to this experience! I am used to using the auto settings or just an iPhone camera, so this will be difficult but I am excited about the challenge. In my own life, I don’t believe in failures as a negative but as a positive learning experience. My failure or learning experience this week included a learning curve during our first class. I felt like as soon as we stepped outside to start shooting I immediate forgot everything we learned in that first half of class. I was mixing up shutter speed and aperture and exposure. I also didn’t carry my camera with me to class so I had to use another one, then that died a little before the class ended. Then I didn’t carry my camera with me during the rest of the week and wasn’t practicing what I learned continually.
My intentions for this week are to not overthink my photographs and subject. I want to take as many pictures as possible. Every inch of my environment is available to be photographed and I want to take advantage of it. I think that the best way for me to make time for this class in my schedule is to schedule times to shoot and be intentional with my time.
This week I will be focusing on photographing my surroundings on SJU campus. I will be setting aside intentional time to focus on my assignments and to take what I learn in class and make it come to life.
A photographer I am looking at and admiring this week is Mark Hamblin’s. This portfolio is one that shows the focus of each subject. It displays the work that we viewed in class in trying to show the main focus of the piece. It displays the use of shutter speed and aperture that we learned about in class.
