Curation is the new Publishing
It's so true. Just look at sites like Tumblr, Pinterest, and Twitter, to name a few. It's sites like these - social media sites - that I attribute with changing journalism. No longer does media mean "in the hands of a few."
Media today is social. It gets passed around, shared, commented on, and liked. Each one of us - that's right YOU who is reading this - is a publisher. That is to say, if you use sites like Facebook, Twitter, Wordpress, Tumblr. But instead of people paying us with $ to publish, they are paying us with social gratitude: "Hey, I really LIKE this. I'm going to share it with my friends now. Mind if I send traffic your way?"
These "publishers" get traffic, likes, and shares precisely because people like receiving what they are putting out and deliver on a regular basis. This makes curation the new publishing.
As marketers today grapple with how to get people's attention and dollar$, they must think of themselves as curators of the web. What will you be delivering to people on a regular basis that they will like, find value in, and later on perhaps purchase?
Think about it. Let me know.
