Warnings || Lily & Marlene
Lily sat down on the end of her bed, letting out a breath of relief. She wasn't entirely certain that she had sat down all day, and it was nice to have a moment to relax, however fleeting it might be. Dinner would be soon, and then prefect duties, not to mention her Potions essay that she still wasn't entirely satisfied with. Lily lay back on the bed, stretching her arms above her head and closing her eyes. For now, at least, she could be a bit peaceful and try to forget about all of that. There was no one else in the dorms at the moment, and she really could just use a chance to enjoy the silence.
Not that her head wasn't bound to fill it with something. Usually, whenever she did find a moment of peace these days, her mind started to race through all of the feelings that she had yet to sort out. Again, she went through the conversation that she had with Alice earlier that week, but she still felt muddled and unsure. Alice had been so certain that whatever was happening between her and James was a positive thing...that James was probably just as preoccupied as she was...but Lily was having a difficult time accepting it. She had decided to try and let herself be happy, and just go along with whatever felt right to her, but that was still a foreign strategy for her, and it was no surprise that she felt uncomfortable. She was used to overanalyzing and internalizing, not casually giving things a try.
But, she had promised herself, and Alice, that she wouldn't be too logical about this. James, this James that she was starting to see more and more of these days, who wasn't a wanker and actually was decent company, was someone that she should give a chance. Plus, and this was probably the hardest bit for Lily to accept, the idea of allowing James to have some leeway actually made her stupidly happy. She liked the conversation that she had with him on the Astronomy tower, and the bracelet around her wrist, and baking Christmas cookies with him. In fact, she almost looked forward to seeing him in her classes and in the common room, smiling at her like he really wanted to see her. Part of her knew that she was stupid for thinking it, but she was actually rather enjoying this new James. So why not let herself be happy? That was a new idea for Lily, but not a bad one, and she was determined to give it a try.
Lily heard footsteps on the stairs and her eyes fluttered open, her mind settling back down to where she was. "Hello?" she called out, turning on her side so she could see the door. She hoped that it was another fifth year; suddenly, being alone didn't seem as appealing anymore.
