Hi! I was just wondering what Marmalade Fish is?
Oh yeah, sure! I'm happy to answer that! Fans of Sarah Rees Brennan's books (The Demon's Lexicon trilogy, Team Human, and Unspoken) call themselves "marmalade fish". It's the fandom name, like Shadowhunters or Whovians. It's a pretty small fandom, at least on Tumblr - more of a fan village, really. Though the books, in my opinion at least, deserve a much larger following, which is why I'm always waving my Marmalade Fish flag around loud and proud like a complete loon. :P
The name comes from something our beloved author, Sarah Rees Brennan, said once upon a time:
"So in the supermarket, I became distracted by a jar of marmalade. The little orange strands in it suddenly looked rather like fish to me, and I tilted the jar of marmalade towards the light, thinking 'the fish would need special jelly-absorbing gills' when it occurred to me that nobody who thinks about fish living in marmalade will ever turn out to be a Secret Genius.... It was a blow to me, I will confess. But I'm recovering."
