(any AU;; I’m choosing pirate!)
In a pirate AU, Shirou and Atsuya would probably be nobles (or at least rather well-off people) living with their parents by the seaside. Unfortunately, when Shirou was still young, pirates raided the city and killed all the family members, Shirou having been spared because Atsuya pushed him into a wardrobe to hide at the last moment when the pirates burst into their house. Shirou developed a phobia of loud sounds, brought over from the gunshots that were heard throughout the town that day.
