The Gate Swing I'm going to coin a new term here. I'll call it the gate swing.
It's when someone attempts to gatekeep, badly, and then gets upset when they're told off with canon for their attempted gatekeeping.
I'll give an example. Back in 2014 or so my friends and I were in a Marvel RP on IMVU. And for about a week this person kept coming in around the same time each night, would ask what we're doing in the game, and then leave after they found out. Their account was "Stebe Rogers" (or a variation of that, but definitely "Stebe" was in there.) And their avatar was a feminine depiction of Steve Rogers. Stereotypical "twink" gay. Ultra thin, with Dr. Frank 'n Futter level make up. At one point they showed up as a pregnant Tony Stark avatar. It was obvious they shipped Steve and Tony, which we were perfectly okay with but the gay stereotyping in the avatar appearance did rub me a little the wrong way for being stereotyping.
Anyway, my friends and I were using characters from Marvel's roster of Gothic monsters. Frankenstein's Monster, Morbius, Werewolf by Night, Dracula, things like that.
After about a week Stebe came in the room and this time said "Are you still doing that annoying monster crap that doesn't belong here or are you actually doing Marvel tonight?"
My friends and I were angry so I started to very aggressively school her on the existence of the supernatural and monsters in Marvel comics, including Dracula having appeared (at the time) recently on Avengers Assemble (animated series).
She got upset at being told off and started to whine about it in other Role play rooms, claiming we were gatekeeping all because she didn't know the supernatural existed in Marvel. No, we got angry at HER trying to gatekeep, trying to tell us that we shouldn't be playing these characters in a Marvel RP room.

Similarly the other day someone came into my Sandman group and on a post about Superman asked "What does this have to do with The Sandman?" And this was followed by a sarcastic comment suggesting that Superman existing in the same continuity was impossible or far fetched.
I angrily broke it to them that The Sandman is set in DC comics main continuity and Superman appears a few times in The Sandman. Not only that but in The Sandman: Endless Nights in the story Heart of a Star, Despair of The Endles accidentally indirectly brings about the creation of Krypton while chatting with Rao and ultimately causes the creation of Superman, DC's greatest symbol of Hope. (Each Endless represents a thing and its opposite.
Needless to say she got bent out of shape and accused me of gatekeeping. This isn't gatekeeping. it's retaliation against gatekeeping. It's swinging the gate back in the face of the person who tried (badly) at gatekeeping and couldn't handle the humiliation of being wrong.
