My brother’s been eating keto on and off for awhile now, and not the kind that includes a lot of vegetables (though he does eat some every day, I’ll give him that). Whenever we spend time together food is a conversation topic. I try to minimize it, but I’ve been getting really annoyed with the whole thing lately. Despite my best intentions to leave it alone, I let my mouth run just a little bit. Didn’t say much, but did say some. And then gave in a little to my stubborn and competitive side, and, well, I issued a challenge.
Suddenly we are in a weight loss contest for the month of February. We officially started first thing Saturday morning, Feb 1. After sending in my weigh-in number, I’ve totally ignored the whole thing. I went out for Indian food on Saturday, ate a bunch of chips and hummus later that day, and finished the day with a big bowl of pasta with broccoli and sauce, toast on the side. And a LOT of red wine. Today I drank many, many mimosas (we nearly killed a bottle of orange juice and had to get a second bottle of champagne), ate a bunch of granola and several biscuits.
I’ve considered how I’m going to approach this month, because despite how I’ve acted about it all weekend, I can’t wuss out now. Too stubborn. I’ve decided to do a Mixed Mary’s Mini diet (meals = 1 starch + green and yellow vegetables) on weekdays, and leave off on weekends--though with much less excess than this past weekend!
Totally kicking myself for doing this. But if I started it I have to try. I’ll be posting how it goes.
I’ll start tomorrow with my usual oatmeal (minus the nut butter), lunch will be russet potatoes with salad greens and roasted broccoli, and dinner will be sweet potatoes with onions and whatever other vegetables I have in the fridge, hopefully including more salad greens. I’ll also be going grocery shopping tomorrow to stock up: the rest of the week I intend to base my meals around russett potatoes.
