@marylilymicrofic/mess/299 words/no tws/ good luck babe vibes/allaboutlov3 on ao3
My life could’ve been very different, Lily thought looking at Mary while holding James’ hand.
To say that everything was a mess would be an understatement. They were currently sitting in the great hall for dinner. Everything seemed normal. Even though it most certainly wasn’t. As if Mary had sensed Lily’s gaze she began to smile. But instead of looking at her she turned to the side and kissed Emmeline on the cheek.
Lily immediately lowered her head. Her insides were churning. She knew that she had no right to feel…whatever it was what she was feeling right now. It was just…Mary used to look at her like that. Beaming with joy and a certain sparkle in her eyes. It was a look that was meant for her. And for her only.
And even though she had no right to an emotional outburst of any kind, she couldn't stop herself from standing up abruptly, letting go of James' hand in the process. James, who had been head over heels in planning the next prank with Sirius and Remus just mere seconds ago, was now eyeing her with a frown.
“Lils? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, fine. Headache. Gotta go.”, she tried to keep her voice steady and smile at him reassuringly but judging by his facial expression she had failed miserably. Oh well, that’s a job for her future self then. Right now, she really had to leave. Her entire face was flushed, so she probably looked like she'd just run a marathon.
It was at this second that she realized that Mary was finally looking at her. Directly into her eyes. And Lily just knew that Mary understood perfectly well what had just happened. Mortified she turned to leave as the first tears began to run down her face.
Mary's Song (Oh My My My) - marylily microfic - 343 words
Lily and Mary had been friends since they were seven and nine, respectively. Their parents all worked together and became very good friends, and so the girls grew up together.
When Mary came to be thirteen, she started to see Lily as a little kid, threatened to beat her up when Lily came running up to her while Mary was hanging out with her friends. Lily later got told she looked at her as if she belonged with the stars. Mary didn't do it, of course.
Two years later, Mary had apologized long ago and the two grew ever closer. At yet another dinner when their parents were off drinking wine and gossiping about the other families on the block, Mary took Lily out to the treehouse in her backyard, and they played truth or dare.

Underneath the cut is the prompts written out and some rules/guidelines
marylily the confession part 1: equals (442 words)
marylily the confession part 2: technicalities (596 words)
“Not worthy of my love?”, is the only thing she manages to get out despite her painfully clenched jaw. “That’s the dumbest and possibly shittiest thing you have EVER SAID. And that says a lot about you Mary MacDonald.” Her voice grows louder with every word. She can’t stop herself from screaming. “How dare you? How dare you even imply for a split second that YOU are inferior TO ME? How dare you say these things as if they’re facts and not merely your own insecurities which have nothing to do with reality? I might not even deem this piece of bullshit worthy of an answer cause the woman I LOVE would never even DREAM of saying shit like that. Of saying this SHIT about HERSELF. Fucking hell.” She pauses for a second seemingly still in disbelief. The she shakes her head. A cold laugh slips from somewhere deep in her throat. “Inferior to me. What were you even…? Are you out of your damn mind?”
Mary only blinks at her stunned. She can’t say anything. In her mind there absolutely was a scenario where Lily would scream at her. But only because she thought it was an offense that Mary dared to have romantic feelings towards her. And have the nerves to confess. She didn’t think Lily would scream at her because of…technicalities?
“What? You got nothing to say for yourself? No counterargument? I thought you loved me because… how did you put it? I disagreed with you and wouldn’t stop? Well, this is me still disagreeing. But also, if you haven’t noticed, this time it is me WANTING TO CHANGE YOUR STUPID MIND.”
Lily has raised her arms while speaking (or shouting rather). Now she is standing in front of Mary breathing heavily. Her arms are uselessly floating in the air between them. She looks a little defeated. For a while, neither of them move. Neither of them speak. The silence stretches. Finally after what feels like an eternity, Lily brings her hands up to her face and rubs at her eyes vigorously. Why?, Mary asks herself. Is she crying? But that doesn't make any sense. What is there to cry about? Unless…Mary got it all wrong. Is their friendship over now? Did she destroy everything? But why would Lily scream at her the way she did? And say all these things? This can't be the end, can it?
“Lily, I…”, she starts but doesn’t really know what to say. Her thoughts are racing.
“It’s alright.”, Lily says calmly. She lowers her hands a little so Mary can catch a glimpse of her face. There are traces of tears on her cheeks. But Marys gaze is immediately fixed on Lilys eyes. Crying makes them shine even brighter than they already do. Slowly, with a strange delay, Lily begins to smile at her. “I guess I’ll have to show you then.”
Bright green eyes meeting light browns.
If you asked Mary later, she couldn’t tell you how this situation is what leaded to them kissing. How this was the talk that settled all the questions. Well, not all of them, but it seemed like a basis. A starting point if you will.
If you asked Lily, she’d say that after this confession, ending up with Mary was inevitable. It was the talk that settled all the questions. Well, not all of them, Lily would agree. But it answered everything she needed to know for the time being.
And if this is not the beginning of a great love story then Lily doesn’t want it anyway.

@marylilymicrofic/cleaning/283 words/angst/allaboutlov3 on ao3
There was no way of knowing if Mary would be back anytime soon. The only thing that Lily could do was wait. She hated waiting. She was so tired of it. Her hands stung. She had been cleaning for hours at this point. The sun has risen and set again. But Lily still had no idea. She still had no answer. She sighed and wiped a soapy hand across her sweaty forehead. In her mind she had played through all the possible scenarios. Mary coming home happy and healthy. Mary coming home hungry or already holding dinner in her hands. Her beautiful brown eyes would sparkle in that special way they always did whenever she laid eyes on Lily. But there was also Mary who came home exhausted and frightened. Mary who came home with another impossible and dangerous task for the order. She could come home hurt and in pain. And of course Mary couldn’t come home at all. And wasn’t that the scariest thought of them all? So Lily picked up the sponge and scrubbed. Scrubbed until her hands were all wrinkly. Until the floor was all clean and then some more. There was no point in stopping without knowing if her life would change entirely. Cleaning was something she could do. It soothed her in a strange way. It kept her hands busy even though it couldn’t stop her racing thoughts. There was only one way to stop the endless scenarios in her head. But as so often in life there was no guarantee shed experience it again. So instead she imagined it while she sat on the floor cleaning not knowing if her wife would ever return to her.
