Meditation Rock
Here Mary Ball Washington prayed for the safety of her son and country during the dark days of the Revolution
This tablet was presented by the National Mary Washington Memorial Association (chartered February 22, 1890 - February 22, 1962) by whose devoted efforts this monument was erected and this site maintained.
And you can bet that, after her devotions, Mary Washington never threw beer bottles off this rock. She always made sure to carry them home with her.

Spring College Road Trip RECAP!
9 students, 2 chaperons, 1 mini-bus, 28 hours, 4 colleges
On April 29-30, a group of juniors had the opportunity to travel around Virginia and tour four college campuses. Our first stop was the University of Mary Washington — a smaller, public university in Fredericksburg, VA. Almost all the colleges we visited were in the middle of finals or preparing for finals, so campuses were relatively quiet!

The second stop on our trip was Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. This school was a great contrast to our first visit in the sense that is a smaller (approx. 1500 undergraduates) private school. Despite the sticker shock of tuition (over $50,000 per year), the Admissions Office informed us that the average financial package is $30,000, which brings it to the range of many public state schools. The students enjoyed the chance to eat in the R-MC’s main dining hall — which, like many colleges, was all you can eat!

We stopped by the Short Pump Town Center and then spent the night at a hotel in Ashland. Saturday morning we were up early and headed to University of Richmond — a private college in Richmond with just over 4,000 undergraduates. Despite being in Richmond proper, the campus was gorgeous and did not have an urban-feel whatsoever. We were fortunate enough to have current Richmond student and Walsingham alumnus Ian Gallagher (’14), give us a tour around campus. Ian was full of information about life at University of Richmond, his transition to college coming from Walsingham Academy, the admissions process, and an “inside scoop” on a day in the life of a Richmond Spider. The counselors were glad to hear that Ian felt Walsingham Academy truly prepared him for college academics.

Our final stop was Virginia Commonwealth University — a great contrast to the other three schools we saw. VCU is in the heart of Richmond and has a very urban feel. Additionally, it was by the far the largest school we saw on our trip, averaging around 24,000 undergraduates.
By the end, everyone was exhausted, but we had a great assortment of “favorite schools” among our group — which means we had a successful trip!
