Waking up again- be it here or anywhere -was the last thing Jay expected to happen.
Granted, waking up next to a giant hole in a weird, unfamiliar city was pretty damn unexpected in a general sense, but typically the dead never wake up at all. So when he found himself sitting upright, desperately inhaling like he hadn’t had a breath of fresh air in years, it was all quite an unexpected shock.
He’s still having a hard time actually accepting that this is happening to him, in fact. Unwilling to settle in at some random condo he’d been taken to- a condo full of strangers, he noted with a fair amount of displeasure -he’s taken to idly wandering down the sidewalk near where they’d dropped him off. He doesn’t want to go too far, but... he can’t stay there. He can’t sit still.
He shouldn’t be alive. Jay remembers with an unfortunate amount of clarity the day he’d been shot; the agonizingly long period of time in which he lay bleeding out in Tim’s house. There was no way he survived that, and yet, there he was. It felt wrong. If they were going to bring him back, they could have at least left him where he was. Tim didn’t exactly need his help- if anything he did could be considered helpful -but now he was dealing with Alex alone. That’s a thought that sits like a weight in his guts. He’d left him alone.
Jay holds the disposable camera up to his eye; pans the view down the street. Through the viewfinder, he’s almost alarmed to see what appears to be Tim of all people, and the camera nearly slips out of his hands. That’s impossible. Tim should be back at his house, or at Benedict Hall. He wouldn’t be here. He couldn’t be.
That doesn’t stop him, however, from nearly sprinting across the road and down the sidewalk after him. Maybe he’s just hallucinating again, but he has to know. He doesn’t deserve this after all the trouble he’s caused Tim, but that does nothing to quell just how badly he hopes he isn’t simply seeing what he wants to see.
