Fuck it you get my masquerade spoiler thoughts post because I'm supposed to be getting ready to go out but the thoughts man. The parasites.
Okay okay okay starting off with the fact this is a retelling from Erik's POV, his mind, right. You absolutely forget this until later when it 1 hit KO's you twice, perhaps more as I think on it.
Like watching the circus scene was fucking heart breaking. Yeah we joke that you throw popcorn at Young Rik in the cage but like. He's on a leash, literally. His name is plastered next to his title of Devil's Child. His monkey musical box is taken from him and he's taunted with it. He grabs someone's hand and holds on before getting rattled to let go.
When he runs, it's fucking BUQUET that hollers after him. He hugs Giry in thanks but she just kind of does a "oh that's uh nice kid let go" thing and pushes out of it. When he gets his mask, he shatters a mirror and creates the known half mask. Current Erik sings to Young Erik and they HUG. IM SUPPOSED TO BE FINE AFTER THAT?
THEN THE ENDING. Where Christine comes back for ring return except that she DIDN'T. He puts a cloak over her and she disappears!! BECAUSE SHE DIDNT COME BACK. And then! Then! Young Rik comes back and takes off his mask and then WE'RE all motioned to take ours off and. Fuckin hell man oohhhh my god.
And that's just a few points where you're reminded you're watching "in Erik's Mind" for this. Fuck maaan.
Then there's the whole animatronics scene where a Phantom and Mirror Bride (I won't lie I saw her and went ":D Barb!!") do a beautiful dance and proposal and at the end they end up back on the platform Barb started at looking into a mirror together like it's a wedding photo. The audible "aw :(" that left me.
We also got !! A carry!! Which was fantastic!! And if you ask me, MOTN and I Remember where a lot more sensual with the staging which definitely ties back into the "more reminders we're in Erik's Mind" bit. (This is the point I won't keep my yap shut about character interactions as Hugh Panaro was my Phantom and I got picked to sit next to Christine's bed so he led me to the seat and showed me the monkey's mask!)
The Notes 2 scene(s?) were absolutely funny as hell I might add. That's when we witness Piangi "being very drunk, you know how tenor's can hold their breath!" And Carlotta's croaking! Stolle and Grodin were the managers for the performance and by god it was so entertaining.
I do love how Piangi got his own note (which I got!) that asks him to "step aside in favour of another, lest further accidents befall." And then quite soon gets dragged into the clothes and falls out later (he's just drunk, y'know them tenors.) The managers actively know it's Erik on stage at this point, not Piangi!
It's also the same room we watch Twisted Every Which Way in and augh. That's all I got for that one, chat.
AND ANOTHER LITTLE DETAIL in the cemetery I loved!! The live violinist from the start of the show is supposed to be Papa Gustave Daaé! When the scene ends and we're all ushered on, he steps into the outline of the angel! (It was also when I realized at that moment that a decent chunk of the people around me had no clue Papa Daaé is named Gustave and that was her Father's grave but fair!)
I'm sure there's more I'll tack on as I continue my day but good golly. Good griiiief.
