Top 10 Marvel longest POC-lead titles

Few notes for the criteria I used.

Books that were relaunched immediately after cancellation are counted separately. Titles in which the title has changed but the numbering did not are counted as one. Titles in which POC character took over from a white lead were counted only for the duration the POC character held the title. Issues #X.1, #X.MU and similar were included. Team books were not included unless the team was only two people because 3 is a crowd. After mistaken assumptions about one character included on DC List was an isolated case, I decided to not include the books if the lead character started as white and was later revealed to be of mixed heritage and white-passing.

Marvel Special Edition/Master of Kung-Fu #15-125, 111 issues, from 1973-1983, lead character: Shang-Chi

Black Panther, 62 issues, from 1998 to 2003, lead character: T’Challa, for final 4 issues Kevin “Kasper” Cole

Hero for Hire/Power Man - 49 issues, from 1972 to 1978, lead character: Luke Cage. Note: The series continued from issue #50 as Power Man & Iron Fist but since it adds a white co-lead I decided to disqualify that part.

Black Panther - 41 issues, from 2005 to 2008, lead character: T’Challa

Ms. Marvel - 38 issues, from 2015 to 2019, lead character: Kamala Khan

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man - 31 issues, from 2011 to 2014, lead character: Miles Morales

Nova - 31 issues, from 2013 to 2015, lead character: Sam Alexander

Spider-Man - 28 issues, from 2015 to 2018, lead character: Miles Morales

Captain America: Sam Wilson - 25 issues (the last one renamed Captain America), from 2015 to 2017, lead character: Sam Wilson. Note: The series continued later with Steve Rogers as the lead

A tie between The Totally Awesome Hulk - 24 issues, from 2016 to 2017, lead character: Amadeus Cho / Daken: the Dark Wolverine - 24 issues, from 2010 to 2012, lead character: Daken Akihiro / Black Panther - 24 issues, from 2015 to 2018, lead character: T’Challa

Caught up to Immortal Hulk  (slow day at work) and we had few minor cameos of Miles and Amadeus in issues #14 (first page ) and #15 (all other pages). 

Also, since I have an excuse, I wanted to point out something. They retconned Hulk that sided with Hydra during Secret Empire to be a completely new personality that is mindless rage unable to speak or recognize people, not caring who he hurts at all. Current dominant Devil Hulk claims he has locked it up deep inside Banner’s mind. Then almost immediately establish that Devil Hulk is the same one Banner once held locked up, the worst of his all Hulks and one that wants to destroy the world. I repeat, even for the supposedly most monstrous of Hulks working with Hydra was decided as a too shitty thing to do. He might want to smash our civilisation and see if we survive in the ruins of it but even he wouldn’t work with the Nazis. Quite frankly, I’m glad they made this retcon and I find it quite telling they decided even for Devil Hulk working with Nazis would make him too unlikeable.

Also, one of the letters for this issue asked about the possible return of Skaar. Ewing respond that “there’s a way in which he could come to these pages” assuming no other writer will pick the character up first, and that he “got some ideas for the future, but they’re still a little too far away to commit to print”. Maybe a little less now, since it was in issue #15 and this week was #24.

What do we learn from War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1 (which, btw, you can buy here)? That Silk has a huge crush on Luna Snow, Amadeus is still terrible at being in charge, Kore has a superhero who is a little girl with a magic bear and that usual superhero misunderstanding fight is actually a horrible idea.

Champions #2. You can buy it here

I usually try to avoid posting more than five pages of a book but in this case the entire issue is pretty much constructed to let us see what drove Miles to make the deal with Mephisto and even posting as much, I am not doing it justice. So please if you haven’t, buy it and read the whole thing.

Also, I’ll tag @atopfourthwall because I suspect he will appreciate a book that very clearly riffs on One More Day but does it in a way that makes sense and where the heroes make the deal with the devil for altruistic reasons while being clearly manipulated. Hell (no pun intended), even the set-up, with a supervillain battle involving a team of teen superheroes resulting in massive casualties seems to intentionally mirror beginning of Civil War, a story that directly lead to One More Day.
