SnK - what the story really is about
I had a big aha moment when I was chatting with @somuchtrouble Finally I can see clearly what this story is all about - Sports!
It has been in the details this whole time, remember Bertholdts kick? (soccer) Reiners running? (american football) Annie’s super kicks? (soccer again, don’t mind the hand position, Isayama just tried to mislead us). BT is clearly the baseball star.
So this is what I pieced together: 2000 years ago the great tournaments was founded, my guess is it’s some kind of tri-tournament, trio is always a big thing in this story. So it’s American Football, Soccer and Baseball. Sometime later in time a great team captain was born, he was a true legend and his team won every tournament. But for some unknown reason he got tired and left in the middle of the night (more dramatic that way). I’m sure you guessed it, ofc it was he the humans inside the walls called God. Since Ackermans always have been close to this God I guess they were originally part of his legendary team, it was an awesome team after all.
But the Ackermans grew tired of the captain’s retire plans, living in an utopia, not playing sports, you get the picture. And since the captain brainwashed the humans he had (his team’s loyal supporters) to believe it has been some kind of genocide and he didn’t want the truth to get out. He enjoyed his retirement duh. So yeah, he threw around threats, made ghettos and all that. You know how the story goes.
Somewhere later in time there was a man who was really tired of seeing his team lose to this new arrogant star team - The Warriors. His name was Grisha and he set out to find this old hero(/god, you know how they like to exaggerate), and when he found him he begged for him (her at the time) to come back and lead his team to victory. He(/she) refused and Grisha took the powers for himself, and later gave them to his son Eren. He told Eren to get to the basement, Eren wouldn’t understand it all and there were no time to explain. Everything was in the basement, he would understand as soon as he got there, Grisha was sure. All those books, posters, more books about tactics.. Grisha knew his son would understand the passion for sports and one day choose to be a great captain of his own team and beat the god-awful Warriors.
The Warriors somehow realized this plan and tried to take the power for themselves. Sheesh you have no idea how important the tournaments are for these people, they would literally commit genocide to win. But you know, sport nerds. So yeah, we know they had problems finding the power and how they didn’t want Eren to get to the basement. We also saw a glimpse of BT and Reiner after their baseball game challenge. BT wanted to make sure Reiner still knew how to play and even threatened to replace him (dude, he hasn’t been playing for 5 years, cut him some slack). Like I said, sport people can be savage, he was even willing to let Reiner be eaten if it meant he would get a better player. They probably only have a few players in each team, my guess is it’s the captain and 5 more (Reiner, Bert, Annie, that dead friend and the four-legged guy). And then they have a bunch of brainless titans as well, that’s where the captain’s power comes to play, he controls them. (You did notice Bertholdt’s beautiful kick in ch 79, right? If Eren was a ball and the wall the goal, yeah you get the picture, true beauty)
So the end will probably be a big game, Team Humanity vs Team Warriors. Epic.
