To be fair, he's not entirely to blame for the problems affecting Ninja Steel. Becca Barnes, Alwyn Dale and Brian Casentini are also to blame. Honestly in addition to bringing in more new writers, I'd like to see Jackie Marchand returning as well plus it's likely that Beast Morphers will be a transistional season as in that the next Hasbro season will have fresh new blood.
hm you know what’s funny? and this isn’t just @ you because i’ve seen like everyone else in the larger fandom doing it. but power rangers has had quite a few different EPs over the years and not a single one of them has had any of the lines of defenses that judd lynn gets from fans. something like “well it’s not all his fault because there’s all these other writers!” was never offered up as a defense of tzachor (who wasn’t even a head writer like judd is) or kalish or sloan or guzelian. in fact people went out of their way during samurai/megaforce to paint the writers under tzachor (james bates, jason rhodes, etc.) as Trying Their Best despite tzachor’s tyrannical constraints. kalish routinely gets blamed for things like ‘kalishsplosians’ which were actually due to directory koichi sakomoto.
anyway it’s just interesting that as soon as people point fingers at judd lynn, who is the EP and the showrunner and also specifically has a hand in all the scripts (he even went on rangerboard once during dino super charge to confirm that nothing gets written without being okayed by him and to not blame becca et al for the scripts), people leapfrog over him to blame literally anyone else: becca, alwyn, nickelodeon, haim saban’s locked twitter account, the ghost of jonathan tzachor, zordon’s floating head.
but the fact is, judd lynn is the showrunner, he makes all the decisions, he writes the show, and he is the one who chose, after dino charge s1, to get rid of all the veteran writers from samurai and megaforce and promote writing interns becca and alwyn to staff writers (which is a crazy leap, to go from being interns to staff writers) and he is the one who thinks they’re good enough to keep on and he is the one who okays all their writing choices and overrules them if he wants to. so yeah, there might be a lot of hands in the pot but blaming judd lynn is completely justified, not just because he’s the figurehead as the EP but because he has repeatedly told and shown us that he is the one in charge. he’s the one who hired these rookie writers. he’s the one who runs every aspect of the story. so yes, he is the one to blame.
