12/04/14 The Swedish Energies Festival kicked off at Phill Niblock's Experimental Intermedia space with a hypnotic seven hour multi-channel playback of Ákos Rózmann's extraordinary 12 Stationer,which was recently released as a 7CD set on Mego. Mats Lindstrom of EMS mixed and spatialized the material live.

12/07/13 The Swedish Energies festival descended on NYC again, this year taking place at Issue Project Room. Highlights included a duet between EMS president Mats Lindstrom and turntablist Marina Rosenfeld. Mats Gustafsson, in a solo sax performance, coaxed unearthly multi-timbral wails and groans from his instrument. Hanna Hartman created the audio for her performance using a small miked table with beakers of liquid, which she bubbled by blowing through tubes, as well as rolling a small ball which created crunching sounds, and spinning washers down thin threaded posts. Skull Defekt Henrik Rylander teamed up with MV Carbon for a noisy improv, and audio-visual duo The Space in Between combined graphic visuals with a spacy soundtrack, which to these ears could have benefited by dispensing with the beats. The inscrutable Lary 7 DJ'd between sets, playing nothing but endless versions of "Caravan".
