Let me start from the beginning. Maw and Wendy are sisters - twins, they come from the same human mother/carrier. But they have different dads. Wendy is half-Slenderkin, and Maw is half-Zalgoid.
This is how they look like.
(Idk how to explain the whole double paternal thing without launching into an essay on some extensive lore stuff, so I guess you’ll have to take that as the sort of mystical mindfuckery that’s going on in my AU. Rest assured there’s no unsavory stuff involved in the process, that’s not how I write things).
Anyway, Maw was conceived first, a lil teethy fetus that bothered her mom big time. Then Wendy came into existence, and the two shared a womb for a while. Until Wendy grew too big and straight up ate her sister, becoming the only twin to made it out to the world.
But Maw was never really gone.
For 18 years of Wendy’s early life, Maw was stuck in Wendy’s body, a writhing mass of teethy teratoma that manifested to her twin sister in disturbing ways. Above is her form in Wendy’s mindscape, playing the devil’s advocate, feeding her intrusive thoughts, always trying to take control. Chaos is her game and she excels at it, making Wendy’s childhood absolute hell.
On their joint 18th birthday, however, they finally separated. Forcefully. The Zalgoid’s side of the family finally caught up to them and ripped Maw from Wendy, leaving the latter bleeding to death. She didn’t - thankfully, but Wendy lived to face a bigger problem - her Zalgoid sister was free and, with the making of her new body, would soon walk this earth. Which, if the prophecy was true, would herald the end of this world. Very fun!
Events aside, the nature of their relationship is pretty hateful but they do care deeply, even if it’s because they were each other’s only family for the longest time. They would go on to save one another on many occasions, despite fully knowing that at the end of the road they will have to kill each other, and only one - or neither - would remain.
Also I just realized this is just about Maw and Wendy’s relationship and not about them as individuals, so expect a follow up post on each character individually 😅
