hope this isn't weird to ask but how do you separate the character from the content creator "fully"? (Not sure how to word it)

I can do it, but every now and then I feel a little bit off about certain things if that makes sense. Apologies if this doesn't make sense!

That's a good question, and here's how I think when I ship in MCYT community

*Don't spread this anywhere else because I could be WRONG. This is just my personal answer*

MCYT fandom is not like other fandoms because the content we consume is both [Character] and [Content Creator]

Most of the content they(Hermits/Lifers) provide us is not even Roleplay! They just chill and play Minecraft

We simply separate them in our minds to stretch to the limit of creativity (headcanonfanon) and continue to have our joy (and some of that CC likes/inspired by it!).

We will always associate with the [Content creator] because that's how they do their job, share the entertainment, connect with their viewer, and stuff

We like their character, and ofc we like their(CC) personality

(That's why parasocial relationship happens more in this space, but I'm not here to talk about that)

I never buy the concept of [separate the character from the content creator "fully"] unless you make them your OC

If you take at least one moment from cc stream? That's still CC's personality, not their character

Heck, my biggest Grimpulse crumbs came from The charity stream (shock collar moment)

But most of us put that [ personality ] into their character because we don't want it to be WEIRD

I know it sounds bad, but trust me, there has never been just [white] and [black] We are always in some gray area

But how do we know it's okay to do what we do?

Here's what I stand for

If you haven't done any of these

> Actually want CC to date each other *Especially* when they are already in a relationship/married > Asking CC to do or answer shipping-related questions (I personally include "Are you okay being ship with..." too bc that's so weird to ask... leave them alone, stop poking them) > Post ship headcanon and take it so seriously you harm other ppl (spread negativity to other shipper or just a person in general) and also post that in the place where CC could see you (twitter...) > Tag CC on your ship post and say something like "This is so You and You!" (<saw this happen once ot twice and Ugghhh ew ew ew ew)

Then you're more than okay, my friends

I've been in the worst fandom before, I saw when things got out of control (ppl invade others' privacy for their own pleasure)

I witnessed how badly shit went down when you crossed the line in 2010 (and it still affected ppl who were there)

I hope ppl on the internet in 2025 can be chill

Having a small shipper corner will not harm anyone as long as we know how to behave and prevent ppl from seeing our weird personal fun creation

That's why I have a shipper blog for A REASON (<saying this not directly to anon but in general)

Gray area is not the worst, and we can live there without actually hurting ppl, just know where the line is and make sure you don't cross it

Hope this makes sense, please don't unalive me

Fandom drama exhausted me, and I don't want to live through that hell again

back in my day, people were shipped together who didn't even talk to each other. old man yells at cloud

that is to say that fandom police are such a weird thing to me. respecting peoples opinions and stuff is good, but bullying people on behalf of someone else is... weird. especially since nothing we as fans do affect the actual players outside of fanart.

the only policing should be accurate and consistent tagging, imo. separate tags for shipping is good. then doc can look up all of his favorite rendoc art as he wants lmaoooo

When You talk about [people were shipped together who didn't even talk to each other] I immediately thought about Jackfrost and Elsa ASDFGHJK XD It's hella funny but somehow WORK

Shippers were Craaaazy, Shipping is always about fun from fans to fans anyway (+some cc who's fine and enjoy being shipped)

Callout and witch hunt culture have been overrated tools to handle the situation when most of the time you could just do the private talk

I get why most of ppl scared to talk in dms but policing others by calling out is not the way to settle things

We did our part as a community, now others have to do their part by not digging it up, stopping harassing ppl, and learning to live their life

just that

Have fun in the fandom as much as you want in your area, It's the entertainment and hobby anyway, don't make everything your entire life (or you could, but that's your decision)

dude I wouldn't worry too much about the whole "oh so and so doesnt like their character being drawn in this specific way" cause like, this is a fandom space made for fans by fans. you're labelling and tagging things correctly so that any CCs [and more so, so anyone really who doesnt want to see that specific kind of content] can easily block/avoid it. thats how the internet works, you come across something you dont like, you block it and move on, you cultivate your own intenret experience to your liking. I honestly dont think its nearly as big of a deal as most people make it out to be.

I know, but I worried all that bc I had/seen some bad experience before and it still stresses me out that's why I feel like I have to keep my guard up all the time

It can be exhausting but it's better than getting harassed or targeted bc ppl might assume the worst in me Orz

I had considered quitting this fandom way too many times, but at the end of the day, I think I can live with paranoid and try to focus on positivity The CCs are just so lovely, Their content helps me a lot and I met tons of friendly people here, I wanna stay

I read a bit of your ramble about shipping and policing and whatnot and honestly it saddens me it's still a problem in hermitblr.

I've been a hermitcraft fan since early 2020, like January 2020, and even before DSMP was really a thing the way people treated others, especially shipping blogs, was gods awful. Like genuinely doxxing and sending threats and baits it made me so paranoid especially when a lot of the aggression was coming from BNFs.

I left for years because it was so bad, got into DSMP because at least there you weren't immediately shadowbanned for liking a ship (as long as it was a legal ship).

Coming back now I was so hopeful that with the various life series and DSMP better delineating the difference between c! and cc! I'd feel more comfortable enjoying hermitshipping, less likelihood of getting anon hate again.

It's sad to see not much has changed since 2020

I know it's wrong, I know that shipping any mcyt always feels half wrong in my guts but I always remind myself that I'd never ship them irl

I know I can separate the "irl" and the "their persona" so It shouldn't be a problem If I don't show it on the surface

I make sure to keep them hidden underground and on separate account

So ppl won't find it easily and won't think it's a "Normal thing" to do

(I make sure to use tag so ppl can mute the tag and not seeing them)

As long as we can keep things under the surface and don't bring them up to harm others It is supposed to be fine

I disagree that ppl calling others out by digging the things They shouldn't dig and showing it on the surface

because That's when the problem happened (drawing attention to the topic, risking ppl getting attacked)

I'm not saying my shipping was the "right thing" It's pretty much a gray area and has always been a blurred line between cc and the Block character

I try my best to make sure I don't show them on the surface

put them in the right place

So please, anyone who passes by and read this

If you see something icky and feels wrong to think about calling someone out

either let them be or Talk to them first

communication, They might have more things under that

And If it's a thing underground, don't dig it up to the surface

Talk to them, have a discussion, and clear the misunderstanding

The fandom would be more lovely if we could talk to each other before causing harms (plus, without feeling fear to have a chat)

I just really really dont understand why YOU get so much hate for...doing what more than half of the fandom also does...? Hang in there, okay?

It's not that uh... huge hate towards me? (I hope not?)

From what I know. It happened to me 2 times

(If there's more I just haven't seen it yet)

I still have a bit of anxiety from those situations so I just put a disclaimer under every Joel-related ship post from now on, Just in case some new ppl haven't read my discussion and do the exact same thing as others in the pass

but yeah it's weird, isn't it? most of ppl should know by now that we ship "The character" and not "The real person"

We can love their silly irl friendship but also enjoy have fun shipping their block game character at the same time

ppl can be aware enough to separate content from irl

And I'm doing absolutely well rn so no worries!
