VIDEO OF THE MONTH: But I’d Really Have To Kill You.

F. “I could tell you, but then I’d had to kill you.” How did you conceive this film?

M. The project began as a creative enlightenment. I work mostly as a commercial director and I had been pining to shoot my first short film. I was researching in all my spare time for a film that I was trying to write and then came across this short story written by the wonderfully talented Jeff Drake. When I saw it I immediately fell in love with the entire concept of it. I just find it to be such a relatable thing, “I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you”, it’s silly but there’s so much honesty behind it. I love to try and find the human truths in my characters and explore the things we all think about but would likely never say. There’s a lot of darkness beneath the surface of people, it’s fun to peel back the layers and see what you find. Everybody has a “Jeff” in their life, be it a colleague or a friend. So it wasn’t so difficult to crack what this character might be like and how he might experience his emotional boiling point. I don’t think Jeff is a ‘bad guy’. He’s obviously in a bit of a dark place on that given day, but we all have our moments. And in fairness to Jeff, he does give Chip what I feel to be adequate warning.
