Cunning Linguists Author Interview: Max Turner
EMAIL FROM: CLANCY
Did you see this? This is fame now, right?
Prepare yourself. I couldn’t get past the first line ;) [Link]
If the email had come from anyone else, Seth would have presumed they’d been hacked. But he knew full well Clancy wouldn’t hesitate in sending him something gross.
He frowned, preparing himself for a trick of some kind. One of those creepy videos that pops up when you click.

What inspired you to write this story?
I love fanfiction, I absolutely consider it a hugely valid form of writing so when I saw this particular anthology call, doing something around fandom or fanfiction was my first thought. As a transgender man myself, when I came up with the idea of having the main character reading fanfiction about themselves it just seemed such an obvious, but slightly different way to approach the whole idea of fanfic writers rewriting cis characters as trans. It was such fun to play with and, for me, a hugely affirming story. I hope it might resonate with any trans masculine readers out there.
What’s your favorite sexy word?
It has to be cock. I often see it criticised (including in fanfic) for being overused. But honestly, there is just such a satisfying sound to the word - it means business. I'd much rather read something where the word cock is used a thousand times, than see a writer struggle to switch it out with such uninspiring and mundane words as dick, prick, penis, member, love meat, etc.
What stories are you working on now? Do you have some upcoming releases readers should look out for?
I've had a lot of short stories published in 2021 and early 2022, which has been great. But right now I've decided to cut down on short story submissions and work on some trans m/m romance novellas that I've got sitting around waiting for me to get back to them. If all goes well, I'm hoping to be able to release two of them before the end of 2022.
