my interpretation of twiddlefinger is that he is a manifestation of max’s very extreme thoughts that he would never admit out loud. how he very much so loved nugget to the point he felt like dying, but refused to tell anyone out of fear of being called weird.

twiddlefinger is the version of him who has no fear, just want. without max’s mind, there would be no twiddlefinger. i like to think that in the mdp world, if too strong feelings get left unchecked, way too strong for the mind to handle, it creates another you that is just the manifestation of those feelings.

in short, twiddlefinger is the personification of max’s strong feelings for nugget.
