Some time in "87 or "88 I picked up Didjits “Fizzjob.” It became a regular spin but never made it to the hallowed position of recorded Maxell tape for endlessly listening to in my car. The record was raw but tight, the singer seemed crazed or mentally unstable or possibly both. Flipping through the new arrivals in Pier Platters I pulled a copy of “Hey Judester.” Coming from a family where cars are treated as equals I was pretty excited by the title of the opening track, “Max Wedge.” I drove a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger so a Max Wedge was a dream car. We worked with a guy named Hudson that built and raced Max Wedges. We lived in the same town as “The Teachers Pet,” built and raced by Jerry Stein. Those two words on the back of that LP meant a lot. I brought the record home and dropped the needle and it exploded! The band had undergone a tune-up. They had obviously played and toured to sharpen their edge. ”Max Wedge,” remains a regular spin and still sounds as amazing as it did that first time. "Hey Judster," "Hornet Piñata” and "Full Nelson Reilly" define late 80’s early 90’s Punk. So, Hardcore turned into suburban Metal kids coopting the name and Punk Rock was wrenched from the junkyard and spit in our faces once again. Thank you Didjits. After "Hey Judster" I never missed a live show. The band never failed us. Sadly, this does not have a happy ending. On December 28th, 2016 just as we thought the insane number of musician deaths couldn’t continue we heard that Doug Evans had died. Evans and Brad Sims were like a well oiled machine making sure brother Rick didn’t get too caught up in his twister of mayhem. We were lucky to have Doug walk amongst us and we will always have his amazing music to remember him by. This First Thursday at D.C.’s Tavern I’ll have plenty of Didjits to pay tribute. #didjits #dougevans #maxwedge #dcstavern #firstthursday #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #recordcollection #recordcollector @dalespix @la_bry @jcolangelo01 @tfool @disislim
Drag Racing was at fever pitch in the early sixties. The factories were waging war, and the offerings were in many cases, purpose built and often outrageous.
We will be featuring Factory Lightweights at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals November 23-24, with an outstanding group coordinated by Jim Kramer of Kramer Automotive.
Tonight we present one of the Mopars you will see; a '63 Max Wedge aluminum car that exemplifies what the Mopar camp offered.
Of course you will see Max Wedges and Hemis, but also Super Duty Pontiacs, several Chevy Z11's, a Thunderbolt, a 62 Lightweight Galaxie and more. In fact, we have something else in the works that coincides with this display that will blow you away.
So if you had a time machine, what would you run? @kramerautomotivespecialties#mcacn#mcacn2024#factorylightweights#maxwedge
