Memories

A crumbling house in the village after a fire. One of my penultimate shots before he finally disappeared. May 2021.

This story begins in my 2020 year, specifically in April. I've only seen the person who lives in it a couple of times. A gloomy elderly man with a cane, dressed all in black, short, with a dog that also had some strange behavior. I remember driving past this man once, he was just walking along the main rural road near his apartment. He stopped when he saw me and started smiling and saying something under his breath. I left immediately without looking back. A thirteen-year-old girl would hardly want to get in touch with such a character…

Every time I came to this village, it was terribly scary to pass or drive near this house. There were also many questions, for example, how can you live fully in a house where the roof has collapsed in places, where there are huge holes in the walls, where there are no windows? In the summer, the front door was often open there, and I once saw someone lying on a mattress and turning over. By the way, the dog knew me well and, as a rule, always left the house when I arrived there.

At the end of December 2020, a fire broke out in this house. Since then, I have not personally seen either the man or the dog. Moreover, the news about that fire did not mention the victims. In 2023, the house was reduced to ruins, and then buried. Now it's just a bare area, overgrown with grass, flowers and weeds in the warmer months. You can't even say that there was once a house there. Despite this, when I visit there and pass by this place, it's like I feel the energy of that house and I feel uneasy, just like in 2020
