The most common last name I see used for Kai and Nya is Smith. I personally don’t like it too much. So when I saw Jiang thrown around I latched onto that.

Now I have a small little headcanon for the last name of that family.

Ray took Mayas last name. Rays used to be Smith and he changed it to Jiang. And side note, it’s the other way around in the movie verse. There they took the name Smith.

So imagine my reaction when I wondered if Jiang means anything in another language. It does. In Chinese (the simplified version at least) it apparently means river. If Google Translate isn’t trolling me this just makes my headcanon even better. Mayas family name means river! It’s perfect!

The reason why I like this ship over many Lloyd ones, and why I try to convince others on it, is that it touches on Lloyd's... human side. It gives him a character beyond the legendary green ninja he portrays himself as and it further encompasses elements of his character that the show could've touched more on (re: his past in Darkley's School for Bad Boys, for example!). Along with that, you get Brad, who has a little bit of a snarky silly personality shown through his brief screentime that I've found you can do a LOT with (with one's own additions), even independent from Lloyd, and with both of them fleshed out, you get the most amazing rarepair soup you'll encounter around these parts!
