It’s always hard playing an Egyptian. We have played each other many times and it is always tough to play against another Egyptian and the first round is always tricky so I just wanted to get into the mood of the match and of the tournament.

I’m really happy with my performance and I’m looking forward to this week.

It’s good to have a change and play in a new venue. It’s amazing that we can put our court anywhere and it’s amazing here and hopefully the court is going to work well for me this week.

 Playing Victoria here in England is going to be tough, but I have a rest day tomorrow and hopefully I will prepare well for her and it will be a good match.”

Mayar gets her confidence back but Coline limps out...

Coline got injured (I was not looking at the time) apparently at the end of the second, looks like the lower buttocks… She still run a hell of a lot, but we could see her limping quite heavily at times, and was in tears at the end… Mayar will be very happy to get through this one after a not too lucky end of the season…

Mayar My confidence has been very low, first I was sick and also a strained ankle, so I haven’t been match fit for quite a while now. I played her in Manchester and lost 3/0. Coline makes the game, she finds the winners, the tin, she talks with the ref… You need to stay very focused throughout. I hope her injury is not too bad but she was running a lot today so I hope she’ll be alright soon. I’m really happy with the way I played, it gave me my confidence back, and I’m so happy tomorrow I’m playing Nour El Sherbini…

Tinne comes back from 2/0 down against Mayar under antibiotics..

I am so relieved. Coming down from 2/0 is mentally so tough, but today, I knew what I had to do. I saw she was struggling a bit and looked tired, so I made sure I slowed down the pace and kept the rallies as long as possible. That was the key. And if she was playing a loose ball, take my chances… I am so, so, so happy …

Mayar finally finds solution against dangerous Danielle

I was again impressed today with Danielle clever squash, the way she constructed her rallies and finishing the points at the front after finding some accurate drives at the back.

It was obvious in the first game that Mayar was struggling, and couldn’t find any solutions! And Danielle kept the momentum going in the second game, 4/3 up. But from that point on, a few fistpumps, some really intense attacking from the Egyptian, and Danielle couldn’t keep controlling the T anymore. Eight points later, Mayar was walking off court, 11/4. The 4th was anybody’s really, Danielle who got her second wind was up 10/8, Mayar levelled it 10/10, and managed to FINALLY close out the game 16/14 after 3 match balls!

Mayar: I just didn’t know how to contain her, how to play her. Well I knew how, I just coudln’t do it! And even in the second, up to 5/5, I still couldn’t find any solutions. But she started to make a few unforced errors, and I got a bit of confidence in my shots. I am so happy to be through, especially in Egypt, in front of my mum and my family, I am so grateful to my coach Youssef Hamed for his support...

Nicol on the warpath

The hunger, the drive, the desire that Nicol – who has won everything there is to win and more – possesses is just incredible. She played a terribly effective and clinical performance against 20 years old Mayar Hana who just passed some important exams back in Egypt….

Nicol was at times the patient and relentless retriever she can be, and also the “Nicolawy” she can be, assertive and lethal at the front, finishing the rallies beautifully, Egyptian Style…. Mayar made about 2 errors the whole match and like Nele against Raneem, didn’t put a foot wrong. When we got on match ball, 10/2 up, Nicol retrieved whatever Mayar was throwing at her as if she was 9/10 down in the 5th game of the World Champ final!!! It was just incredible and poor Mayar had to work soooo hard to win that single point. Nicol closed down the match on the next point, but I’m here to tell you Legend Nicol is alive and fit, and aiming for Gold in Saudi….

it’s great to have the Malaysian flag in this prestigious event in Saudi, and it’s great to have a bit of home support! Mayar is one of the young up and coming players from Egypt, I just stuck to what I had to do, a solid squash to try and prevent her from doing what she does so well! This is a milestone for Saudi, and for women sports in general. When I started to play squash, we were just my two sisters and myself playing squash, and now, look at the latest results at the BJO, four titles for Malaysia. That show how much women sports and sport in general can grow…

Mayar Nour is such a talented junior, she just won the British Open Junior, she is 14 and she has a great future in front of her. In the first I was very concentrated, but I thought I won and relaxed too much, lost my focus, and she took rightly advantage of that in the second. I managed to refocus and close it out in the 3rd. I didn’t think about my tactic at all, I just know it’s the last event of the year, and that it was a good match!

Mayar My biggest fear was to make things very easy for her and look a bit ridiculous, so at least, there was a game that was really competitive…. I’m happy with that at least… I wish that when I was up 8/5 in the first, I would have been more patient, and up 10/9 in the second, I would have stuck to my game plan better… Raneem We know each other very well, she plays in my club and we actually play each other a lot. We are good friends, I’d like to think… She hits the ball very well, and hold her shots superbly, and can either drop it or send it to the back, which means I have to be ready for both and trying to keep her behind me… She was very hard to handle, too gifted!!! I guess I took a few return of serve straight to the front, which was a little silly I guess. I was lucky it went my way today. But I won’t be lucky every day…
