Writing Updates/Insights!

I am typing this with injured hands that are clumsy and hurting, so apologies in advance for any typos and/or nonsense in this post 😂 in this post, I'll cover post-hiatus discussions, comments/anon updates, and what to expect in the month of June!

Post-Hiatus Clarity

So, I'm slowly coming out of hiatus, and I've come to the realization that the problem right now is that I have way too many WIPs and I didn't give myself enough time in my publishing schedule. For some perspective, I currently have 5 WIPs right now, and I originally aimed to upload a chapter of each a month (in the below order!)

Heart of the Ocean

For You It Is A Rose

Unfortunately, that just wasn't realistic! Plus, I very much miss writing one-shots and just shorter fics in general.

SO! How will I address this?

Until I get the number of WIPs down, I'm doubling the writing time I'm giving myself to 1.5-2 months between chapters for each WIP. I won't be announcing or committing myself to any new WIPs until I finish Sick of Losing Soulmates and Take Me, O Rare and Radiant Maiden of Mine. That will get me down to 3 WIPs, and from there, I'll limit myself to 4 at a time and see how that works out!! Trust I have a LOT of WIPs in the folder (for all my ships, might I add!) and so that may be a struggle. I'll then incorporate uploading oneshots into my schedule so that it will look something more like:

Comments/Anons

Comments first! I am VERY behind on comments at the moment, so I'm dedicating the rest of today and as much as I can tomorrow to trying to catch up! Thank you all for your patience on that!!

As for anons, unfortunately the unsavory ones keep coming in, so I'm removing my "I answer to all anons" policy and being a lot more discerning about which anons I reply to. I still LOVE answering anons, and I will continue to believe in the best of intentions on the part of those anons, but I won't be answering them anymore. A reminder that my fic requests are closed, and they will remain so for the forseeable future!

What can I Expect in June?

Take this with a grain of salt, because as I said, I have recently injured my hands in a way that makes it VERY hard to type. So that will probably limit my writing for the next 2-3 weeks depending on how long the blisters and open wounds take to heal 😂 BUT in June you will be getting:

Finally listened to the entirety of Olivia Rodrigo’s new album and sobbed. It’s insanely good.

Also, so many of the songs made me think of Maydove in SOLS like I could maybe assign a song per chapter holy shit it’s gorgeous

The lovely @maple-321 wrote a fanfic of SOLS involving Maydove as mamas, so guys PLEASE GO SHOW IT ALL THE LOVE!!! I will personally be posting a crazy long comment gushing about it later tonight, but for now I will say it’s crazy good, deliciously fluffy and angsty, and the author is a sweetheart whom I’ve been yapping about Maydove with 😂 go show it some love!!!

One of my favorite things in SOLS is showing how much Lenore Dove is in love with Maysilee. Like, we’re in Maysilee’s internal monologue the entire time, so of course it’s a lot easier to see just how much she loves Lenore Dove, but there are so many moments where it’s so obvious that Lenore Dove is just as crazy if not crazier about Maysilee. Even in the most recent chapter, she’s actively fighting the urge to kiss Maysilee’s forehead while handing her a drink, or she’s checking in on Maysilee to make sure she’s okay, or she’s fantasizing about kissing Maysilee at midnight and maybe more like… Lenore Dove is JUST as down bad for Maysilee as Maysilee is for her. That’s something that’s SO important to me, and it’s something that I’m CONSTANTLY trying to show 😂

My fic has attracted some Maysilee stans, and I am for sure one of you. I could yap about Maysilee for hours. But there’s a certain sect of Maysilee stans who love downplaying/trashing Lenore Dove’s character. And apparently, they think that’s acceptable to share with me in the comments of my Maydove fic.

I’ve already deleted the comment and blocked the person, but do not come into the comments of my fic and call Lenore Dove a “nothingburger.” Even if you think you’re complimenting me. Maysilee is a wonderful character who can stand on her own without the need to rip down another female character. Shocker: multiple female characters can be important to the narrative. Multiple female characters can be well-written. I don’t tolerate bad-faith readings of Lenore Dove’s character (OR Maysilee’s for that matter).

Fuck. Off.

Just simply amazing ballad…definitely some intense moments that made me nervous and feel so much for our girls..but the drusilla part…I swear ballad you are just the best at encapsulating words and making such a wonderful emotional impact and connection. Truly a cutie of a writer if you don’t mind me typing.

So much to unpack, but I’ll just say the ending was not what I was expecting but I had definitely thought it was going to happen given that Maysilee was dependent on it for a while, president’s snow’s surprise was insane and so true to his character….-🪿

I’m so glad this new chapter has been well-received it was very much on the riskier side 😂 but I’m SO relieved to hear that people resonated with it!!

Also, thank you!!! Goose, you’re a cutie of an anon 💕 fr fr. Also, Drusilla’s part was maybe the most fun to write (next to Lenore Dove and Maysilee’s mini convo ofc) because while I adore the softer, more nurturing Maysilee that Lenore Dove brings out with her, it was so much fun to return to Maysilee’s mean girl roots for a second and let her revel in the karma of Drusilla’s situation 😂

Snow… oh, Snow 🙄 what he did was so incredibly petty and unimaginably cruel it was very hard to write. Plus, he’s kind of served as like, the one that inspires Maysilee’s insecurities in her relationship with Lenore Dove, if that makes sense? Like, he was the one who first pushed Maysilee to realize her feelings, and he was the one who first made her self-conscious about her romantic feelings for Lenore Dove. (He and Haymitch in this fic both sort of came to represent heteronormativity, if that makes sense? I’d have to dedicate a whole post to Haymitch because WOOF his role in the story is very complicated and nuanced, and he’s almost a villain without meaning to be? Discussion for another time 😂) And now, Snow is very much poking at that sore spot again. Poor Maysilee is still struggling with feeling selfish in her romance with Lenore Dove, and Snow is determined to see that relationship crash and burn it HURTS 😭
