A gender-neutral menstruation calculator, in order to better predict Shark Week without any excessively-gendered elements. Technology is great.
This one is about cycle tracker apps, boys you were warned
Heard about the new cycle tracker Mcalc and decided to check it out solely because of the concept of it being gender neutral. I remember when I first looked for an app I was so irritated by the bombardment of flowers and pink and all other dainty happy shit on an app that was to help me remember when my uterus was tearing itself to pieces. That being said, I like the layout but I also really like my current app. It's pink, yes. It does lack flowers but also has a cute little animal on the welcome screen. The pink is kept to a minimum. And it allows for input to track things like symptoms, allows for manual correction of dates when you're late or if you run longer than usual. Tracks weight fluctuations as well, and signs of fertility none of which Mcalc seemed to do. It gives me push notifications for when I'm starting in a few days, for a few days before I ovulate, which it seems Mcalc is working up to in the pro version. It has password protection. I like passwords on things. Even passwords on my already password protected phone. A feature Mcalc does have which my current one doesn't is that there are two settings. One is a baby setting assuming you're tracking your fertility to have a kid. The other is sex setting which assumes you're tracking your fertility for the exact opposite reason. Oh and it's made by Aperture Science, so that's points in its favor. Well, you know, kind of. Unless it's by actual Aperture Science. Then that might be bad. My boyfriend and I were talking and he mentioned that there is a feature neither of these has and which I've never seen on any I've looked at which is the ability to set the same notifications to go your partner(s) phones so you can work on conceiving or not conceiving together without having to run the quess work on time frames or when to ask questions. Or to avoid being a guy who also has a menstrual cycle app on his phone.
Hey, about the MCALC app.. Does it work if your periods are irregular? Or do you have to know it your cycle is 28 days or.. whatever people with a regular cycle have?
Honestly, I haven't been able to get it to work at all :(
I'm trying to use US instead of metric for my stats because that's how I know them. But the stats are default in metric and once I change the settings, it won't let me calculate. I need to convert them but haven't gotten around to it yet.
If any followers know the answer to this question, please let us know. In addition, I will update this once I've managed to get the app to work.

Most perfect statement of perfection: "While I’ll never say never, it is highly unlikely that I will ever want to pop a crotch-monster out of my hoo-ha."

It's 5'clock somewhere...
I'm sitting in a lounge area at my university trying to crank out and revise this paper that is due on just under two hours-- don't worry, second draft ;) -- and a young woman in normal clothes and a head covering comes over to my corner. She then kneels and performs her evening prayers. I love it. We did not exchange words; I did not bother her; the students that passed didn't even react or look twice. As though this was perfectly natural-- because it is.
I love that I live, work, and study at a University where the population can be so accepting, tolerant, and openminded.
