Armin's reaction to Eric confessing to Candy
First of all, Candy doesn’t panic after it happens (and wouldn’t wait until the weekend trip to tell her partner).
She’s mostly embarrassed and awkward about it. To be completely honest, I don’t even understands while she was spiralling about it so much in LL. Like okay, that’s bad (it is never easy to have one of your friend catching unreciprocated feelings but still), but girl was literally losing sleep over it (the only valid reason for such a reaction is on Nathaniel’s route because in that context, Eric’s confession was really messed up. Otherwise it’s embarrassing at most)
But since Candy is an open book, for better and for worse, you can tell within 10 seconds that something’s up. She laughs too much. Avoids eye contact. Overexplains nothing and everything at once.
And of course, Armin notices it immediately. At first he just jokes about it, assuming she did something mildly cringe at work or said something awkward to someone.
But when she tells him, his first reaction is to laugh. Not because Candy having a suitor is shocking…but because it’s Eric.
In Armin’s mind, Eric is the least likely person to make a corny love confession, to someone who already has a boyfriend and who is very much Armin’s girlfriend (the audacity of man)
Then he sees her face and realises she’s not joking. He freezes. Like deer caught in headlights kinda freeze.
Candy would try to lighten things up, laughing nervously and immediately reassuring him:
Eric got the message and won’t try anything else
Armin believes her (he doesn’t question it). He completely trusts her and he’s definitely not mad at her. Not even a little.
He’s offended though (as he should ngl, Eric’s playing dirty here). Something about the “team’s daddy” (said in these very words, I was there) trying to steal his girlfriend does not sit right with him (perioddd)
However, his first instinct is not to confront Eric. It’s to vent to Nathaniel.
(Because yes, Armin and Nathaniel are besties. They trust each other. They talk. Healthy male friendships exist and I am keeping them.)
The call with Nath is half disbelief, half dramatic outrage.
“No, I’m not making this up.”
Nathaniel is… complicated about it. Eric helped him rebuild his life. Convinced him to join the academy (I headcanoned that). Became a mentor (almost a father figure)
Armin clocks that immediately and gets annoyed a bit (“Could you put your daddy issues aside for five seconds and back me up?”)
In the end, Armin doesn’t confront Eric right away because:
Nathaniel is clearly caught in the middle
and Armin doesn’t want to turn this into a bigger mess than it already is
That said, Armin becomes noticeably petty.
Calls between him and Eric (at work because you can bet that Armin isn't interacting with him otherwise since the reveal) get sharper. Shorter replies. Dry tone. Sassy remarks that ride the line between actual joking and targeted passive-aggressive remarks.
And Eric is not stupid. It doesn’t take long for him to realise Candy must have told Armin.
Which leads to Eric brings the elephant in the room up himself. The conversation is tense but not hostile. Armin is blunt. Eric apologises. Boundaries are set very clearly.
Armin accepts the apology. Let’s be real, he’s the least spiteful person in MCL (as far as I know, since I’ve never played his route) but I’d say he understands messy feelings better than most (and he’s used to worst dramas than that, I mean his brother is Alexy ? Did you all forgot what that mf did ? I DIDN’T)
And Armin too, doesn’t forget. So after all that, Armin keeps an eye on Eric (just in case, but truthfully, I want to believe Eric is not a complete b*stard and he really got the message and won’t try to play house wrecker again)
Candy kinda notices it sometimes: the way Armin’s hand lingers a little longer on her waist when Eric’s around, the way his jokes get a little sharper (or the way he can rant about for hours if you bring up the topic)
But in the end, they’re fine. Their relationship is not impacted by this. Not at all.
Ngl, I got really busy (which is supposedly a good thing but then again, not really) and I changed my computer (which means I was unlogged of Tumblr and since I used the suggested password and just saved it, I couldn't get the account back - I mean I could, but I didn't really bothered... my bad guys). I honestly don't know when I'll post or anything but oddly enough, there were not many requests (which can either be due to my lack of consistency or the fact that the community is dying... probably both).
Anyway, enjoy these little headcnons, while I try to make some more while I'm feeling productive.
