in chapter 5 of the red vs blue fic "oh the places you'll go" by mdecarabas published in 2014, a character wants to buy peace offering food but becomes concerned enough that the recipient could have food allergies that he asks the employee at the bakery about their anti-contamination procedures (which are thorough and described with enthusiasm) and asks two mutual acquaintances whether the recipient has any food allergies before actually buying anything.
the same fic has a young character with a speech impediment that usually isn't transcribed except when it's particularly severe and isn't brought up as some Tragic Thing, and does cause him notable realistic distress.
