In the 2014 BBC-TV documentary, "Meat Loaf: In and Out of Hell." Directed by Matt O'Casey, and featuring an on-screen interview with Harvey, who also provided supplemental narration in the film, it was first broadcast in the US on the Showtime cable TV Channel. The celluloid portrait of Meat Loaf, seen on BBC Four TV on March 13, 2021, that will be broadcast in the first quarter of 2022 on various cable networks. I had to be about nineteen. At the beginning of summer of 2016, when we had just started production on the film “Streets of Havoc”, thus spending allot of time in Red Bank where our base of operations was. So I’d frequent Jack’s Music Shoppe that whole summer, and built most of my collection of vinyls/cassettes in that time. Up to this point, I’d already been told that I look like Meat Loaf in my ShopRite attire, The Rocky Horror Picture Show had already revolutionized my perspective as an eccentric gay artist, and “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” had already become mine and Luna’s drunk anthem. Still, I did know much about the man behind the voice. One of those hot summer nights, when I made my way over to that record store, I saw Bat Out Of Hell / Meat Loaf as I ran my fingers up and down the cassette wall checking for new additions. They were all usually about $2-3 a pop, so once I saw Paradise was part of this album, I threw it up on the counter with some others not thinking twice about it. I got home, popped it into my player, listened to it front to back and then again. I never knew there was a story within and that it would become such a huge inspiration to me. Jim Steinman’s compositions coupled with Meat Loaf’s voice and personality was a legendary fit to the character he portrayed and the type of magic that makes rock and roll history. I instantly fell in love with his whole body of work in music and film, and it changed much of my perspective on how rockstars have to look, sound and act forever. What it’s contributed to my life in nostalgia and as an artist to this day, I am greatly appreciative for.
