The deluge of rainbows and support for Louis in Nashville
To the heroes in Nashville who lined up overnight to get up front by the stage with your amazing rainbow flags and your incredible support for Louis: THANK YOU! I cannot express sufficiently how much you did for all of us. You created a safe and inclusive space for people in that room, and for countless people watching on livesteam tonight and videos from now on. And can I just gush to you about the brilliance of throwing all of your Pride flags toward the stage all at once at the end of his last song? That was genius. So many of us guess that he may not be able to pick up flags from the stage or even acknowledge them without some kind of repercussions from his label perhaps (we don’t know) and he could even be forced to say or do something or have something written on his behalf that makes him seem homophobic, to cover over the “incident” of him waving a Pride flag on stage. We just don’t know. We’ve seen so many things being done to him any time he shows support of any kind for the LGBT community. So we don’t know how he would feel if there were Pride flags laying on the stage all concert long if he would maybe have to pretend to ignore them and wish he didn’t have to. We just don’t know. So the fact that you all gave him an absolute inundation of Pride flags right at the end of his last song… That showed him that you weren’t expecting him to pick them up and wave them at all. You were just showing him unconditional love and support with a deluge of rainbows. Imagine how that would make him feel. I think he got choked up from that moving gesture. You were asking nothing from him. You created inclusion and support for all of the LGBT people in that space. Fans supporting fans, and we know how much Louis loves to see that. You were also fans supporting Louis and singing his newest songs back at him with so much joy. Showing him so much love for his music. And then at the end, giving him your flags without expectation or pressure for him to do anything in return. Just showing him all the love and support. That, my beautiful heroes in Nashville, was AMAZING, and brilliant. Thank you so much!
