On A Small Comfort
#onbeingsick
A minor addendum. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how the overall pain has improved. I’ve got these areas of pain. The rib band is bad news. My wrists were really bad, but are somewhat better, which I attributed to disuse. Thigh, buttocks and hips can get cranky. Sometimes my joints are shitty, but that is infrequent. Shoulder joints can be more hurty. And ones that are long term but tolerable - my shoulder knots and neck kinks. My migraines. But the thing that seems to be missing is the defuse arm and leg pain. That’s how it started. I have had so many other pains that I forgot about it. But no, it’s gone, mostly. I don’t know why. I’ve got some hunches though that I wanted to flesh out: 1) hypothyroidism, even though my case was rather mild. Hypothyroidism causes that deep bone ache for some people. I would think it wouldn’t since I was barely in the hypothyroid category. But every body is a different body. 2) Sleep deprivation. I’ve made some big strides in finally getting real sleep. It’s not perfect, but it’s much better. Perhaps there was something to the chronic sleep deprivation theory my doctors put forth originally? 3) Low potassium. I was always having problems with low potassium. Potassium should maintain it’s own equilibrium. And yet it would always drop to unsafe levels. We never figured that one out, but it’s been fine since 2013 (so far). I couldn’t ponder what changed there, especially since it started around 2007-2008 and was getting progressively worse. The one major change I made was stopping lisinopril. It’s supposed to be a potassium sparring blood pressure medication, but I have paradoxical reactions a lot. Perhaps this was one of those cases. 4) Low magnesium. There isn’t a great way to test low magnesium, but on a hunch I started supplementing for it.
