What enters the room before you do?

the humor

You arrive sideways. A half-smile. A well-timed comment. An ease that curves the energy of the room just enough to make it livable. You don’t force attention, you invite it, lightly. Humor is how you test the ground. How you check for safety. How you step into spaces without startling yourself. People think it’s effortless. It’s not. It’s perceptive. Strategic. Kind. And when you drop the humor - when your voice steadies and the joke doesn’t come - people listen. Because they know now: this matters.

Scene: Sitting at a crowded table, laughter blooming around you, eyes briefly serious when no one’s looking.

Two things are true:

Anakin Skywalker made a choice. He chose to kill Master Windu. He chose to kneel before Sheev Palpatine, Darth Sidious.

Sheev Palpatine had been a voice in his head since they meet. He planted a seed in Anakin, became the darkness that had been nurtured during his time as a slave. He manipulated Anakin, encouraged his darker wants and desires and, especially, stoked his rage.

These two truths are not mutually exclusive.

Which Tarot are you?

The Lovers

Your lover’s back does not look quite the same this morning. No one else would notice the difference, if there even is a difference, but you could swear they have more vertebrae than usual. Something in the breathing, as you stare at them in the morning light. The light in the kitchen is just as warm as it always is, the coffee just as hot, but you cannot meet your lover’s eyes. They kiss you on the forehead, go off to work, shake their keys on the way out as they always do. Did they eat anything this morning? Did they speak? Of course they did. You’re probably losing your mind. You would call your friends to ask, if you had any friends left. You don’t, of course, haven’t for months. You only need each other. You only need them. You haven’t spoken to anyone in months. You count the notches on their back. You watch them breathe. You pray they don’t turn around.

you are orestes from the oresteia by aeschylus, and you are haunted by a cycle of pain. you try your hardest to be a better person, but sometimes you wonder if you will stop feeling trapped by your past. you have a strong sense of justice, you are quick to protect and defend those you love, and you are not afraid to compromise your morals if that means you are settling the score. eventually though, the consequences of your deeds will catch up to you, but that's okay, because sometimes looking your ugliness right in the eye is the greatest release.

And Anakin, Obi-Wan's closest and dearest friend--his brother--was slipping as well.

If he, Obi-Wan, was feeling the exhaustion of the war, it was nothing compared to that of his former-apprentice. The shadows beneath the man's eyes had grown, the lines on his face deepening. Some days, when they had been on a long campaign, Obi-Wan would look at Anakin and see a shell, listless and exuding a kind of suffering that he could not identify.

He wanted to help Anakin, but the conversation would never pass a superficial "how are you?" The answer was always the same, passive and simple: "I'm fine, Master."

Anakin would instead point out Obi-Wan's own pain, ordering that that Kix and the other medical officers chase him down, demanding that he take better care of himself.
