A day in my life: The sweetest reason
Last year, I got to know a kid in the 8th grade. In case of future mention, let's call him Gabe. I was four years older to him, and I'd known of his existence ever since he was in kindergarten. Though we never really spoke. That was until, he entered my new lair known as the art room. I am probably the freest student in the entire school because Art is the only subject I take. This leads to over five classes coming and going while I'm there. And I'm naturally chatty, so I started talking to a little bit of everyone. He liked to talk to me. Mostly, about Big Bang, Supernatural and Star Trek. Time went on, and I found out he was being bullied. He was short, thin, and smarter than most people in his class. To those that are like him, you know that made him a target. To be honest, the kids that bully him really were mean. And he coped with it by having something similiar to a superiority complex. In lack of a better description, he imitated one of his role models :Sheldon Cooper. (He denies all of this no matter how much i point it out)
But I knew Gabe was a good kid. I knew his younger brother and sister who describe him as a wonderful older brother. And one day he said something to me that convinced he didn't deserve to take all that crap that was being thrown at him. We talked about what he wanted to be when he grew up. and this is what he said.
"I want to be a scientist."
"Oh cool, what do you want to do as a scientist?"
Without hesitation he answered,"Cure cancer."
I widen my eyes, "Wow, that's a big dream. But a lot of people want to cure cancer, why do you?"
I blink in silence, knowing his dad is one of the most active adults I know, "But your dad doesn't have cancer."
"I know. But you know, he smokes. So I'm afraid he'll get lung cancer when he gets older. So I want to find a cure in case he does so no one has to worry."
THAT was single-handedly one of the sweetest reasons I have ever heard to cure a disease.
If I didn't already feel for the kid, he drove it deeper when he admitted I was his only friend. Statement was backed up when I observed at a distance that no one really talked to him, and people admitted he had issues. Having to listen to his tales of misery in class I decided to take the opportunity to supervise them one day when the school was short on teacher's due to a field trip. I was 17 with the mentality of a 12 year old. Morality and Maturity are foreign concepts to me. And I'm not always a good person, if at all. Which was why I didn't really hesitate when I kicked one of them in the rear with both my legs. Warned him though. Then his bully buddies then started making fun of me. I admit, I asked for it, and at that point I knew I couldn't beat them up. So i decided to defeat them with a weapon people rarely used.
They hated it when I didn't react to them chucking papers at me and then I just said, "It's ok man, we cool. come on here. We'll hug it out. Come on."
Their reluctance to hug it out resulted in humiliation. Everybody in class had never seemed so happy cuz apparently those kids gave everybody shit. Bless the teachers for putting up with them. I started stroking one loving at the top of his head and smothered him with kisses. He turned red and looked like he was about to cry. Gabe looked like he was having the time of his life, until I told him to sit down cuz he was having way too much fun. At the end of that lesson, the bully a kicked ratter me out to the teacher. She thought it was funny cuz I don't think she believed him. Little did he know that teacher was too fond of me to actually think I did it. bwahaha. The report of harmlessly smothering people with hugs and kisses also didn't help his case. Their entire class wanted me to supervise them the entire day after that lesson. I did for another 40 mins during music. I watched them bully Gabe. It looked rowdy, like normal boys roughing around, but obviously Gabe didn't enjoy it. I silently sat there as one of them kept kicking my feet as he sat on the floor. I warned him not to. In order to prove i wasn't messing around I jumped up and slammed my foot down between his less and stopped inches before I hit the ground or anything else (If you know what I mean). He now tells people I kicked his balls, not true. Didn't stop him from shoving fingers and pencils up people's butts. (to anime lovers known as Thousand Years of Death) So i decided to join him using a pair of scissors. Didn't poke him, but waited for him to notice and scared the daylights out of him. He doesn't pull anything anymore. Actually know we're on amicable terms between him and Gabe since one of them got expelled for crossing a line against Gabe.
Now me and Gabe are still friends. Though now he has to fight for my attention cuz his classmates and I have connected on other topics. Despite my age gap, I still walk to his class everyday I come to school so we have lunch together. You'd think I'd be hanging out with kids my age. But I have a thing for the outcasts. They make the most interesting people. Don't you think?
