Mega City Four was a Nineties pop-punk band from the UK that I know virtually nothing about, and neither does anyone else because apparently they weren’t that popular. They were never released over here in the US, I believe. This song, however—oh, this song—is pure, uncut power-pop BLISS; easily their perfect, shining moment. If it was released a year or two later in the wake of the Green Day/Offspring/The Presidents of the United States/Weezer explosion, these guys would have been huge. The hooks are killer and the harmonies sound like they’re a choir of ruffian schoolboys. This one just MOVES. I have it on CD single, bought for something like a buck at Tower Outlet on 4th St in Greenwich Village in the early 90s (I have no idea why I bought it completely unheard), but I recently found this one-sided UK 12” vinyl version for $3, sporting an etching on the B-side and missing the print promised on the front cover.
