@meghabits i appreciate the insight but to be honest the scattershot approach has kind of been a requirement with my job. When i first started this job we were mainly C#/.net but for the better part of the last three years I’ve been heavily focused on Android/Java dev. Now we’re in the midst of porting over an older Silverlight based website to a HTML/JS/CSS type deal(hence me learning AngularJS on the fly). My programming group is small but we have TONS of work to get done so it’s become kind of a requirement to a know a good amount of numerous things. Debugging and git are also part of what i do everyday already so i have that covered lol.
But yeah i get where you’re coming from pertaining to the big companies having to formalize their interview process. I’ve never really had a desire to work for a large tech company but I still think I need to get a better understanding of algorithms and data structures for myself. Like i know about trees, hashmaps, and that kind of thing but I don’t truly understand it to the point where i could sit and explain it to someone. IDK i just feel like it’d make me a better programmer in the long run...
