Lucius had attended Prospero’s annual Halloween party for years now. In recent years it was always with Narcissa on his arm, of course, but even before that he’d attended as a bachelor. Occasionally Lucius had a lady on his arm in those days, but more consistent was Evan and Noah never being too far off. He’d learned to live with the socializing demands now, but in the earlier years of his adulthood, those two had been his lifeline when things got too dull.
There were several changes to the party this year. Lucius actually liked the more relaxed dress code. Despite growing up in the upper echelons of society, he’d always hated the stupid white gloves that white tie dress required. The new attendees, however, he didn’t care for. Parties like this one were supposed to be an escape. They were where he was supposed to get a glimpse into what life would be like after he, the Dark Lord, and the other Death Eaters shaped it to their vision. Instead, he’d had to drink from the same bar and was expected to pick off the same plates as blood traitors and squibs. Christ, even mudbloods were allowed. Thankfully, there was still some good company amongst the vast array of party goers.
With Narcissa off dazzling some group he was sure didn’t appreciate her beauty and worth, Lucius made his way over to one of the few other women he’d put in the same league as his wife.
“What do you think so far of all of the changes this year?” Lucius asked as he nursed the whiskey he’d brought over from the bar. There were a few people around, but they were far enough away that he felt they could speak freely. At least he was certainly going to. “It’s a shame some of the things they’ve let in.”
