The @MelbourneRebels open up the 2017 @SuperRugby season by hosting the @BluesRugbyReam tonight, so Throwback Thursday is celebrating the southern franchise’s first win – a stunning upset of the Brumbies. The Rebels endured a horror debut, pumped 43-0 at AAMI Park by the Waratahs. But they regrouped a week later against the Brumbies, trailing just 19-15 inside the final 10 minutes as Danny Cipriani’s boot kept the Rebels in the contest. Captain Stirling Mortlock scored the Rebels’ first-ever try at the 72-minute mark – backing up a brilliant speculator from winger Cooper Vuna – but the lead was short-lived as the Brumbies hit straight back with their second five-pointer of the match.
